BE A PART OF TEXAS HISTORY
Your help is needed in saving this historical structure.
Just northwest of Austin, Texas, a weathering white building sits on Old Burnet Road, near the city line between Jonestown & Lago Vista… the northshore of Lake Travis & the “Gateway to the Hill Country”. Known for over a hundred years as the COX SPRINGS SCHOOL, the old structure served as a one-room schoolhouse for children of local ranchers, farmers, and “cedar choppers” for decades. Today it is sadly in need of repair.
Community citizens have banded together to develop a plan to save this great piece of local, Texas & American history. The group has adopted the name “Cox Springs Schoolhouse Restoration Society“. So far, they’ve secured the building, applied for historical status, have received IRS designation as an official 501-(c)(3) nonprofit entity… and undertaken engineering plans to solidify & restore the old school. To date, the building has been stabilized, the exterior restored, windows replaced, and the interior has begun it’s major restoration.
Your help is needed in funding the completion of saving the old schoolhouse, furnishing the interior, and funding it’s ongoing maintenance.
Your help will be greatly appreciated by the community, the descendants of those who attended school in this historic building, and should give you personal pride in saving a gem of Texas and American frontier history.
